Feature Presentation Mode
The main multimedia program of your Zane title. Playing the Feature Presentation is easy - it begins automatically when you run your Zane title. 
It combines text, audio, images, and a variety of interactive features, including questions and quizzes. The Feature Presentation is the perfect way to begin your leaning experience, whether you just want to sit back and listen to the subject matter presented or access the supplemental reference material offered on each title.     

Presentation Mode
Consists of self-playing multimedia presentations - such as A Thousand Years of English Pronunciation - that supplement the Feature Presentations of selected titles by providing topical, in-depth discussions of the subject matter.     

Text Mode
Can be thought of as the "library" of your PowerCD title. In text mode, in selected Zane titles, you'll find study aids to assist you, such as an encyclopedia or the complete texts of selected novels by the authors Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, and Robert Louis Stevenson.    

View Mode
If Text mode is the "library" then View mode is the "art gallery" within PowerCD. In View mode, you can browse all the images contained on the software title. On some Zane titles, the images are accompanied by audio captions that are read aloud, providing even more information about a specific image.     

Indexes
Even though your Zane title contains an extensive amount of information, it's always easy to find exactly what you're looking for by using the powerful system of Indexes. The main Index provides immediate access to all the major areas of your Zane title. To help you zero in on the information you need, some documents have a Local Index.     

Questions Mode
A great way to see what you've learned. Just in case you're stumped and need a quick review, the questions are linked to other modes within PowerCD. The information you need is just a mouse-click away. And if you pick the wrong answer, you'll still get a full explanation, as well as additional pertinent information. It's like having your own personal tutor!

Quiz Mode
Now it's time to put your knowledge to the test! In Quiz mode, you can choose from several quizzes focused on particular subject areas. You can pick the topic, the number of questions, and even set your own time limit. Quizzes can be taken on-line or printed (the answer key can be printed as well). When the test is over, PowerCD tells you how you did, and makes it easy to go back and review any questions you missed.     

Hypertext with Historical Reference Sources
In every Zane title, selected words appear in blue text. These words are hypertext references, which take you to a related location or document within the title. For example, selecting a blue text reference to William Shakespeare might take you to an index that lists more than 26 reference to this playwright!     

Encyclopedia
Many of the blue text references link to the American Concise Encyclopedia TM, which offers more than 15,000 up-to-date entries organized alphabetically or by subject matter. The subjects covered by this encyclopedia include art, biology, history, literature, music, and religion. The encyclopedia  also features an appendix of many of the world's most important historical documents, including all 66 books from the Old and New Testaments (King James version), the Magna Carta, and the U.S. Constitution.     

Dictionary
Most Zane titles feature the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, which features over 70,000 definitions and 500,000 links to related words. This best-selling dictionary also features pronunciation symbols that link to audio samples. 

Customized Glossary
Learning new material always involves learning new word.  PowerCD provides two way to find a word's meaning. If the word is in green text, that means it's includes in the customized Glossary featured on each title. Just select the word to open the Glossary and find a contest-sensitive definition or explanation of the term. Once you've mastered the subject matter of a specific title, you'll have learned the meanings of all the terms featured in the customized Glossary.     

Word Search
Another powerful tool for finding information on your Zane title. By locating all references to a particular person, event, place, or idea you can design your own study guide. There's no need, for example, to flip through page after page looking for Shakespeare. Simply type in his name and every reference in the title to this great playwright will be listed in seconds.     

Grade Book
PowerCD Grade Book imports statistical information from PowerCD, such as Quizzes, Quiz Results, and the History List, which are set up in Preferences under the Edit Menu. The Grade Book provides a statistical view of a student's progress through multiple PowerCD programs, displaying any quizzes taken and their results, plus a history of all documents visited prior to taking the quiz. Instructors or parents can review statistics by individuals or by classes.     

Presentation Manager
A tool that gives you the capability of creating your own specialized storyboard or script for use in PowerCD. It allows you or your students to design unique presentations and select specific focus areas for lectures, tutorials, and student presentations. A teacher, parent, or student can now outline topics for further study, thus enhancing valuable classroom time. Presentation Manager files can be as simple as a few review questions or as complex as all text and features pertaining to relevant chapters or topics. 

Presentation Manager allows you to record images, videos, text, and audio in all six PowerCD modes. You also can record glossary terms from the customized glossary. Once recorded and saved to a file, each presentation can be played back through the PowerCD title by simply selecting Play from the presentation manager menu and the desired file, and then clicking OK (making sure that the CD-ROM is in the drive).

PowerCD Help File
Guides you through four sections: Introduction, Using PowerCD, Quick Reference, and Technical Support. Introduction teaches you about the six operational modes, as well as Quiz Results and the Main Index. Using PowerCD explains how to use the modes, the glossary, the dictionary, the main and local indexes, the word search, and reference lists, and provides you with a list of shortcuts to perform certain functions. Quick Reference provides an alphabetical listing of all contents and functions on a PowerCD title. Technical Support offers information on system requirements and installation.
